If you plan to trek in Nepal's Manaslu region, you'll have many questions and doubts. What will be some of the requirements for your trek? What should you check before confirming your dream trek in the Himalayas? This section is a pointer to what facilities an ideal agency should be offering you on your trek and answers to some of the frequently asked questions before starting the trek.
For any foreign trekkers or visitors interested in trekking, peak climbing, expeditions, or other adventurous activities in Nepal, a trekking permit is necessary. In the case of Manaslu, a special trekking permit is required, which can be obtained from the Department of Immigration, Manaslu, and the Annapurna Conservation Area project through any authorized and registered trekking companies in Nepal. If you plan to do peak climbing and expeditions, you will also need a climbing permit from either the Nepal Mountaineering Association (for trekking peaks) or the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation under the Tourism Industry Division.

To get a group Trekking Permit in Manaslu, an application form with other relevant documents should be submitted through any registered trekking agency in Nepal. Trekking Permits Issuing Offices: Dept. of Immigration, Kalikasthan, Kathmandu.
The Manaslu Trek takes you from 500 meters to the 5,106-meter Larkya La Pass. You can do the Manaslu trek throughout the year. During monsoons and winter, you can do lower Manaslu region trekking.

The lower Manaslu region can be trekked alone or independently without the need for a special permit. However, trekking in the upper Manaslu region requires you to trek in a group of at least two people accompanied by a registered trekking guide from an authorized trekking company in Nepal. This requirement is in accordance with the trekking act of Nepal.
The Manaslu Circuit trek is not a difficult trekking trail, with wide and well-maintained paths. However, this trek does require a high level of physical fitness and endurance. You can trek at your own pace, and our helpful porters can help you with your gear.
Compared to the Annapurna and Everest regions, the Manaslu region is less crowded, but the demand for trekking is increasing year by year.
Accommodations in the Manaslu region are mostly lodges. Lodges are available in most places along the trekking route, but the quality and amenities may vary. In the Tsum Valley, some lodges may have more basic facilities. However, it is important to note that in the lower Manaslu region, especially for treks that cross the Rupina La pass, camping may be necessary due to the lack of lodges in the area. It is always best to consult your trekking company or guide for the most up-to-date information on accommodation options.
The duration of the trek depends on the specific itinerary and preferences of the trekkers. The Manaslu Trek typically takes between 14 to 18 days to complete, depending on the starting and ending points, the route taken, and the pace of the trekker. However, the trek can be customized to include additional side trips, rest days, and cultural visits to nearby villages. It is important to plan for adequate time to acclimatize to the high altitude and to enjoy the stunning scenery of the Manaslu region.

Additionally, our company provides accidental and medical insurance for our trekking staff.
To protect yourself from unforeseen circumstances, it's highly recommended that you obtain a trip cancellation and medical insurance policy from your home country before embarking on a trek in places like Nepal and Tibet. Your medical policy should also cover the costs of transportation in case of an emergency, including helicopter or surface evacuation. Unfortunately, such insurance policies may not be available locally, and it can be costly to receive necessary treatments such as mountain rescue by helicopter and air ambulance if you fall ill. Therefore, having adequate insurance coverage is important so that you are prepared for any emergency situation that may arise during your trek.
The Manaslu region can be best described as having a subtropical monsoon climate, which is generally predictable and pleasant. The monsoon season typically lasts from the end of June to the third week of September, during which around 80 percent of the rainfall occurs. The remaining months of the year are generally dry. Spring and autumn are considered the best seasons for trekking, peak climbing, and expeditions. The climate in the region can be classified into four to six seasons depending on the source.
If you are planning a trek or expedition in the Manaslu region, it's important to know that it can be rigorous and challenging, with prolonged periods spent at high altitudes. To prepare yourself, we recommend regular practice for at least two months prior to your trip, which can include activities like running, swimming, or joining a health club. It's also a beneficial idea to reduce or eliminate habits like drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking, which can impede acclimatization. Before embarking on your journey, it's important to consult your doctor to assess your overall health and determine any limitations you may have. Additionally, it's essential to bring a first aid kit with you for any unexpected medical needs.
